Bring a Washed Out Effect to your Photos in Photoshop


In this tutorial, you shall see how you can add a drab oldies effect to any picture if you only learn how to smartly alter the picture’s color levels and its blend mode thus creating a washed out effect in Photoshop.

Image link 1. Open an image in Photoshop. Width 600 and Height 340.


2. Duplicate the image layer.


3. Go to: Image > Adjustments > Photo Filter
Make the following changes: 4. Change its Blend Mode from Normal to Hard light. 5. Open a texture image in Photoshop (this will add to the washed out effect). Click and drag this onto your document. 6. Change its Blend Mode from Normal to Hard light. You can see that the washed out effect is already starting to become apparent. Just a few more steps to go and your image will be completely washed out (in a totally good way).
7. Open another texture image in Photoshop. Click and drag this onto your document. 8. Change its Blend Mode from Normal to Subtract.
9. Now, we are almost done bringing the washed out effect to our picture. Just go to: Image > Adjustments > Levels and make the following changes:
That’s it, babe; a nice looking washed out effect that you just created.
